Tisch Student Affairs News
Introducing the Student Affairs Newsletter

Welcome to the inaugural edition of the Student Affairs newsletter. At a recent meeting between department administrators and Student Affairs staff, a general consensus emerged concerning the need for more regular and intentional communication among us about deadline, policies, and events. We decided at that meeting that we would try circulating this information via a regular newsletter. (Some people suggested a biweekly newsletter; weÕre guessing monthly is more realistic.) So here is the first one.

As you can see, we have organized the newsletter into three sections:

    Coming Up!, which reminds us of approaching deadlines;
    What's Going On?, a compendium of activities and events we thought you should know about;and
    Did You Know?, which will call attention to School or University policies that directly affect our shared work with students.
All of this is written in pixels, not stone, so please tell us what you liked, what you found useful, and what you found less useful. We want to make this newsletter as helpful to you as possible!

Housing deadlines are fast approaching! There are two phases to the fall housing process for undergraduates you should pay special attention to, one of which is in process, and the other coming soon.

    ¥ Phase II, Lottery Card Submission, is the way students indicate hall choices for the upcoming academic year. Phase II is currently in process: February 27- March 17.
    ¥ Phase III, Room Selection, is when the students go to their assigned halls and actually choose a room to live in for the academic year. Phase III will take place April 3-6.

Housing deadlines are strictly enforced, and the results of missing a deadline can be drastic. You might consider asking students you talk to in the coming weeks how the housing lottery is coming along.

Graduation Exception forms must be sent to Silvana Ferreira in Student Affairs by March 22 in order to include the studentsÕ names in the Salute program. Students qualify for graduation exception if they will finish their coursework by September 2006 but would like to walk in the May ceremonies. Students who plan to graduate by January 2007 are not eligible.

The Reynolds Undergraduate Scholarship application deadline is April 3, 2006. This unique scholarship opportunity is for rising sophomores interested in developing the skills needed to solve societyÕs most intractable problems. Social entrepreneurship is an interdisciplinary, cross-sector approach to public service that is grounded in practical, sustainable, and scalable problem solving.

The DeanÕs Coffee Break takes place on Wednesdays between 12:30-1:30 in the Dennis Riese Family Student Lounge (formerly known as the Common Room) at 721 Broadway.

Applications for the TSOA Scholars Program will be available in April. An e-mail will be sent to students with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher. Please encourage students in your departments to apply.

The Tisch Undergraduate Student Council (TUSC) will be holding elections for positions on the Executive Board starting on April 3 and running through April 7. As of now, Students have until March 29 to apply to run for a position and can find an application at the front desk of the Student Affairs Office, 8th Floor, 721 Broadway. Please be thinking about possible student leaders and encourage them to apply.

The Tisch School of the Arts has a grievance process for students to use when they believe they have been subjected to behavior by School or University officials (including faculty members) that violates School or University policies.

The basic policy may be found on page 11 of the Policies and Procedures Handbook, which you can find on the Student Affairs Web site at http://students.tisch.nyu.edu/page/acadServices.html. Students can obtain a fuller description of TSOAÕs grievance procedures from Dean Cameron.
